Hope (Live at the Comfy Couch 2025)

This next song I wrote quite a while ago and I wrote it
because I was inspired by a child that I met 30 years ago in Nepal.
She changed my life and this is her story.
Once there was a little girl, not much more than three.
Didn’t know where she’d go or who she’d come to be.
Life gave her a mighty blow, leaving not much hope,
to live beyond her early years, her parents could not cope.
Well now the pain, it started slow,
and as the years swept by, the pain only grew with no answers to why.
This girl, she had to undergo many painful surgeries.
Two years of doctors trying to avoid tragedy.
I want to talk about hope.
I’m talking about people opening their hearts.
I’m talking about hope.
This girl, she made a long trip to the city of Kathmandu.
Volunteers awaited there, not knowing what they would do.
This girl, she had to undergo many painful surgeries.
Two years of doctors trying to avoid tragedy.
I want to talk about hope.
I’m talking about people opening their hearts.
I’m talking about hope.
Without the generous help of any people far and wide,
this precious little child, she was not destined to survive.
It goes to show that life has its own ideas.
When we open up to hope, it cancels all our fears.
I want to talk about hope, yeah.
I’m talking about people opening their hearts.
I’m talking about hope.
I’m talking about making a fresh start.
I’m talking about hope.
So this child went on to get an education, get a college degree, become an artist.
And she went on to inspire other people to travel around the world and around America
and help other people and give them hope.
I didn’t know when I met her 30 years ago that that would happen.
But it just goes to show that just helping one person, just even a little bit,
can change a huge amount in the world,
if we all just do our part just a little bit,
there’s hope out there for others.
I’m talking about hope.
Thank you.
That child happens to be in the audience tonight.
If you look around, you might figure out who it is.
